About GladiHerbs

A family business, built on trust and patience

GladiHerbs Enterprise is not a warehouse operation. It is a household — a husband and wife, their children, and a circle of harvesters they have known for the better part of thirty years.

What began at Ghana's Centre for Plant Medicine Research, where Samuel Tete Amewugah and Gladys Okantey first learned to identify and preserve tropical medicinal plants, grew slowly into a livelihood. There was no sudden launch. For years the couple simply walked the Akuapem ridge, learning which roots came up in which season, which harvesters could be trusted to bring in clean, correctly identified material, and how to dry each species so it kept its quality all the way to a buyer's door.

That patient groundwork is still the whole business. Every sack that leaves the compound has been cleaned, sun-dried, graded and weighed by the same hands — or by family working beside them. The founders know their harvesters by name, know the ridges the material comes from, and stand behind what goes into every bag. When a buyer asks what a species is or where it was gathered, the answer comes from people who were there.

It is a deliberately small way to work, and that is the point. Staying hands-on is how the family keeps material honest: correctly identified, properly dried, and fairly weighed, order after order, for the medicine producers, traders and researchers who have come to rely on them.

Correctly identified

The founders' training means species are recognised and named properly before anything is dried or bagged — the single most important thing a plant-material buyer needs to trust.

Dried with patience

Nothing is rushed off the racks. Material is sun-dried until moisture is low enough to store and travel well, because badly dried stock spoils and loses value — and reputations with it.

Fairly weighed

Every bag is marked with species and net weight and weighed against the order. Buyers get what they pay for, and harvesters are paid fairly for what they bring in.

The founders

A family trade, rooted in plant science

Samuel Tete Amewugah and Gladys Okantey met working at Ghana's Centre for Plant Medicine Research — and have spent three decades since turning that training into one of the Akuapem ridge's trusted sources of dried medicinal plant material.

A family sideline became a proper sourcing and drying operation based in Mampong-Akuapem — "Gladi" taken from Gladys's own name.

Today

Still hands-on, thirty years on

Samuel and Gladys run the yard themselves, with family alongside — cleaning, sun-drying, grading and bagging every order that leaves the compound.

Thirty years on the same ridge, working with the same families — that is not something you can start overnight, and it is not something we take lightly.

Four staple lines form the core of what we supply, with seasonal stock rotating through the yard alongside them. Everything ships as raw dried plant material only — cleaned, dried and graded to order, with no extracts, no preparations, and no claims made for it. How we work

From ridge to bagged order

First

Harvest

Harvesters we've worked with for years bring in roots, bark and leaves gathered on the ridge.

Then

Clean & sort

Soil, debris and off-grade material are removed by hand before anything reaches the drying racks.

Next

Sun-dry

Material is spread on raised racks in the open yard until moisture is reduced to a stable, storable level.

After

Grade & weigh

Dried stock is sorted by size and quality, then weighed against the buyer's order.

Finally

Bag & label

Every sack is filled, closed and marked with species and net weight before dispatch.

Species identified by trained hands

Correct botanical identification comes first — the founders' Centre for Plant Medicine Research background means material is recognised and named properly, not sold on guesswork.

Cleaned before it dries

Soil, debris and off-grade material are removed by hand before anything reaches the racks, so what dries is what you actually want to receive.

Sun-dried to a stable level

Material is dried until moisture is low enough to store and travel without spoiling — the difference between stock that keeps and stock that fails on arrival.

Graded & weighed to order

Dried stock is sorted by size and quality, then weighed against your order and marked with species and net weight — so every bag is accountable.

Traceable to the ridge

The family knows the harvesters and the areas material is gathered from. If you need to know where something came from, we can tell you.

Questions about a species, a batch, or how something was handled go straight to the family who prepared it — not a call centre.
